The Faculty of Psychology, University of Medan Area (UMA) held a webinar with theme “The Importance of Interests & Talents in Choosing Study Programs in Higher Education” on Saturday (12/09/2020) starting at 09.00 – 12.00 WIB. “
The webinar event was opened by a lecturer from the Faculty of Psychology, Rizty Desta Mahestri, M.Si, a psychologist as Moderator of this webinar event, and then continued with remarks from Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana, M.Si, Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Medan Area, representing Mr. Prof. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng, M.Sc, Rector of the University of Medan Area who was unable to attend.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Medan Area, Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana, M.Si in her remarks appreciated this activity. He advises students participating in the webinar to choose the right major based on their potential and interests when choosing so they don’t feel difficult when they are in college, and to choose the right college to get the best education.
Therefore, with this webinar activity, he hopes to have a deeper discussion together about the importance of interest and talent in choosing study programs in higher education for prospective students.

The first material for the webinar was delivered by Drs. Alpian Hutahuruk, M.Pd conveyed his material, namely Talents and Interests in choosing a university. In his presentation Mr. Drs. Alpian Hutahuruk, M.Pd explained a case of parents’ egos or certain people including teachers who want their children to be themselves because they consider themselves successful or other close people are considered successful, so they want their children or their closest people including students to want to be successful in the same way. even though the talents and interests of each person are different. Mr. Drs. Alpian Hutahuruk, M.Pd also said that there is a need for guidance and input without intervening in their choices through a psychological approach and also wants to socialize to parents and teachers not to force their will but still supervise their children or their closest people in choosing to go to college.
Next material was delivered by Dr. Risydah Fadilah, S.Psi, M.Psi, a psychologist who delivered his material on the Importance of Interests & Talents in Choosing Study Programs in Higher Education. In presentation of the material Dr. Risydah Fadilah, S.Psi, M.Psi explained about the types of talents, types of learning styles, and types of intelligence which later can help in choosing the right college in future.
